Why Gear-Ratio will never be an integer..?

Gear ratio: Its the ratio of number of teeth of one gear (pinion) to the other gear.

Generally, wherever you see the ratio is never be an integer. Suppose one gear tooth is bigger and the groove on the other gear is smaller. Then, if the gear ratio is an integer, after EVERY specific number of rotations, the bigger tooth will become the matching tooth of smaller groove which results in excessive stress and finally results in the failure of the material.
